The first is the passport. Six months of validity beyond your return date is not a suggestion — airlines refuse boarding on it at the check-in counter, before immigration ever sees you, and they are right to. Check the expiry the day you decide to travel, not the week you fly. A fresh passport takes weeks; a tatkal one still takes days.
The second is the name. The name on the ticket must match the passport exactly — including the middle name, including the order, including the spelling your school certificate used and your passport did not. Airlines charge for corrections and some fare families do not permit them at all. Read the confirmation the hour it arrives, not the night before.
The third is money. Carry a card that works abroad and tell the bank you are travelling; carry some local currency for the first taxi and the first meal; and do not change all of it at the Indian airport, where the rate is the worst you will see on the whole trip. A forex card plus a small amount of cash is the standard answer and it is standard because it works.
Everything else — the adaptor, the medicines, the extra bag — can be solved at the destination. These three cannot.
